Every endeavour however big or small they may be, has the contributions of very many people. The spontaneity with which these people contribute and their spirits of service get’s woven into the endeavour giving it life or should I say a soul. This post is to thanks the many people who helped make www.wisdomcircle.in a reality.
It all started when a few of our colleagues from IIM Bangalore, lead by Zahed, mooted the idea of a gesture of thanks to the Institute that has meant so much to all of us .We eventually decided on a scholarship to be set up along with a rolling trophy for a meritorious student .This initiative is well on its way and the scholarship should soon be instituted in the name of the very first batch of the Institute, The Batch of ’76.
It was while this deliberation was going on that some of us lead by Shekar suggested that we pool in our collective experience and capability and offer our services to organisation on an advisory role and donate the proceeds, after costs to a fund that could be used for socially relevant causes. The idea didn’t gain much ground but I saw, as I’m sure some others did, that there was a lot of merit to this concept, if we restricted ourselves to the cause of returning back to society and we had the means of promoting ourselves.
It struck me that the best way forward would be to set up a web site or a portal that would serve as a forum for sharing experiences and for show casing our wisdom and capabilities .This would be our “selling” platform so to speak .I decided to use the services of a professional group to create such a site and thanks to Rajiv, who introduced me to ‘Ideas and Solutions ‘we found the partner that could understand the vision behind the project and give it an operational flavour.
My daughter and son, Seema and Shirish also contributed to the initial thoughts and Praveer of Ideas and Solutions gave shape to it with the use of a simple design and an existing template from Word press. Soon we had a working model on our hands and it was time for enlisting a team who would give constructive feedback and give the site the desired look and feel and functionality. Amit Roy, R Ravi, Srinath and Sarah Thomas gave very valuable feedback to Ishaan and Praveer. With the changes proposed by them the site began to acquire most of what we wanted of it.
At this stage I introduced the web site to a group of IIM B classmates. Shekar and Srini took to it immediately while Anil offered a rich source of content from the Prerna Learning Centre News Letters. Both Shekar and Srini had reservations on the value that this site would bring and to which specific constituency .We stuck to the original premise that the site should appeal to young professionals, the entrepreneurs of start up companies and Small and Medium Enterprises. We soon had a decent collection of articles and book reviews and we were ready to “go live”, a month or so after we had commissioned Ideas and Solutions to build the site for us.
The site has now been up and running for just about a week .Readership and visitors have been reasonable for a start .We had on day of the launch 108 visitors and this was followed the next day with 146 visitors , the most for any day so far . While most of the visitors are from India, the US comes very close behind followed by UK, Canada, Germany, China and Japan. We have visitors from Australia, Peru, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Oman, UAE and other countries as well. It’s good to see the global nature of the readership. We have a long way to go and need to do a lot more to increase visitors, readership and subscribers. We also have to get to reach our target readership in the quickest possible manner.
Miles to go before we sleep. A big thank you to all the people who made this venture get off the ground. Now we have to put in the hard work and thought behind making it a lasting institution that adds value to all participants, the readers and the contributors.
