Last week end we had a fabulous break with families at a resort on the outskirts of Jaipur , The Samode Bagh . Friends and colleagues from our company and a principal partner had a truely enjoyable time .A lot of heart work was at play and this enabled feelings of warmth and togetherness .The children too enjoyed them selves, quite unlike the usual boredom they experience at biggies events !!
The ambience and natural beauty of the surroundings helped us relax and enjoy the stay .Besides the "tent like" accomodation added to the uniqueness of the experience .Excellant planning , coordination and execution ensured we had a thoroughly comfortable stay . Break outs like these are great energizers .My wife Deepa also came along , her first outing in more than a year since her illness and this made the event even more special for me .
When two large organisations enter into a partnership and co exist for over a decade , there has got to be some thing special about the partnership .A glue of sorts that binds the organisations together .A mutually beneficial relationship for sure ; shared values , transparency and trust as essential ingrediants and a winning blend of styles that alows for give an take .The MD of our Partner aptly brought this out in his key note address . Yes, there where formal indoor sessions , appropriately though the seating was on mattresses and bolsters spread accross the floor which we sprawled over !! We also had a thought provoking lecture on the theme "Unleasing the Buddha within" . Much of the ideas in this lecture come from the book " Firms of Endearment" .Seems to me a must read and I am going to get hold of it very soon . The thoughts here are what fuels organisation’s progress . The conventional wisdom is "Winds " driven by logic and reason while the speaker advocates " Currents " driven by spirit and emotion!!! The Organisations listed in Firms of Endearment apparently follow the spirt and emotion route in addition to strategy and structure to achieve greater and more lasting gains than the organisations covered in " Good to Great " Balanced stake holder value as against just share holder value is the other aspect highlighted. Organisations need to be driven by a greater purpose of value for all stake holders , customers , employees, partners, investors and society .
The lecture also covered what the speaker refered to as the appropriate Leadership Capabilities …Self awareness , autonomy & authenticity.Self awareness is clearly on mindfullness of onesself and ones surroundings and comming to terms with both with a sense of comfort and self worth . Autonomy is when one has cultivated his own understanding of life and people .And authenticity is when one is fully integrated internally and displays consistent and desireable behaviour at all time .Some of these explanations are based on my personal understanding of the heavy stuff in the lecture .I trust I got it more or less right .
The children and spouses were treated to a session on creativity where they let themselves go as they painted pictures , made picture frames etc .They had a thoroughly enjoyable time .The afternoon saw us take camel cart rides to a nearby sand dune for volley ball , kite flying , and fun times together . The evening was reserved for music , cocktails ,dinner and dancing !!
