On the return journey from Melbourne to Singapore ,I did what I had not intended to …I watched a movie,The Dark Night; partly because I wanted to see Heath Ledger in action and partly because I was being contrary to myself.Heath Leder was really good and deserved the Oscar nomination .Not just as I had earlier suspected because he passed away under tragic circumstances .His portrayal of the Joker was outstanding and added immensely to the quality and viewing pleasure of the movie.

I had never planned to watch a movie on the flight back home or ristricted my sleep to just a couple of hours on the longer first leg of the return journey.I did snatch a couple of hours more on the  Singapore Delhi leg , and also used the four hour halt at the Changi Airport to make a blog entry, besides buying som ewhiskey for Darshan & Seema and wine for ourselves ??!!

This visit to Melbourne , my second in three years was to be different to the rest of the holiday in New Zealand.New Zealand was all about experiencing a beautiful country and participating in the winig and dining and adventure activities laid out by our Hosts .Melbourne was about meeting family and friends and going down a nostalgic trip of meeting old friends and classmates from Royapuram.

The nostalia was a trifle limited. The big dampner was Jean and family not being around during our visit .I had hoped that Cedric would arange a get together of at least a few of our old classmates and cricket playing buddies .Cedric however restricted the visit to dinner at his house with his wife and us.Still it was great meeting up with one of my closest buddies from childhood days and getting to know his wife Cheryl .Also this was the first time Deepa was getting to meet both of them .It was good that Deepa shared a chicken receipe with Cheryl and also helped in the dinner , in a small way .

Cedriic ,Srini and I have been very close buddies right from schooling and college and our friendship has stood firm and true even though we have all been seperated by distance and infrequent conrtact.Cedric has always been a very sicere and agreeeable friend .It felt nice that he was keeping in touch by reading all that I wrote on the blog and also viewing all the snaps I post on Flickr. It takes tons of sincerity to be as diligent as this in staying in touch.I dont come across many people who take the trouble of staying in touch over the blog or flickr .

Bobby & Gillean had a couple staying with them , Allen & Indu .We had met them briefly during Sandhya’s wedding .They were an agreeable couple  who fitted in reasonably comfortably with us and participated in all our outiings , including breaking in Deepa’s birthday. Seema & Shirish called up just after midnight to add warmth and love on her b’day .Even Reena remembered.

We had a nice day picnic at Sovereign Hill , about 100 kms from Bobby’s place. It was a gold mine settlement and the place has been recreated in much the same way as when the gold rush was on.

We could sense the wide spread interest in the Melbourne Cup with many families getting together to place small bets and watch the race at home on TV.It was apity we didnt do too much of reading about the Race prior to the event and get a hang on the favourites and participate in picking winners just for a lark .I understand the hot favourites didnt winner and the eventual winner was "View ".

All in all it was an activity packed visit ;I even got to go on long early morning walks to keep the training for the Delhi 7 Kms run going .I should be in reasonably good shape for the run on 7th Nov .I do  hear that our sponsors Standard Chartered Bank have pulled out and so we may not participate after all .Darn the financial crisis .Imagine what all aspects of our lives it is affecting  ???!!!

I managed to up load almost all the snaps I had taken on this trip on to Flickr

I did notice on this trip alot more subdued animorsity for Ex patriates or migraints from the Aussies .There was generally coldness unlike in most other countries one has been to recently ,including New Zealand.Perhaps the  people of Indian origin are on the increase and they are making their mark felt pushing the locals out of jobs .I dont believe for sure it’s on account of the poor show by the Aussies in the ongoing cricket series in Inda !!
