Revisiting Fun Places

I did have the opportunity to return to some fun places over the last month or so …Bheemashwari Fishing Lodge for one and Amsterdam for another!!! Here are quick impressions on each .
The Bheemashwari visit was once again  very good fun .This time with Deepa’s family as we were celebrating Ram’s 50th b’day .The fun was really because of the company and the wonderful time we had together .. there is a huge amount one can say for family gettogethers of this type for the sheer bonding it creates , more so for the kids .
The Fishing Lodge it self left one disappointed .It’s such a beautiful place from a natural scenic beauty perspective , however the overall maintainance and customer facilities left alot to be desired .The tented accommodation seemed run down due to poor maintainance and the staff while being reasonably friendly didnt seem to be either nature lovers or lovers of adventure sports. If they were I’m sure they would have done much much more for the up keep of the place besides adding to the many things that could be done to make a the stay far more enjoyable.
One of our best moments was lounging around on a large netting just being together and enjoying the settings .Shirish did induce his Grandmother to make the climb up to the netting which she did manage after some hesitation. It was really wonderful and thoughtful of Shirish to have induced the grand old lady to so galantly make the climb .I did notice this time that Shirish was noticably more considerate of people around him and extremely gracious .It was wonderful seeing ones son display these traits .
We played a few party games , which Deepa and I rigged together and this too was great fun .We were all cramped into one of the log cabins as there were too many insects hovering around the lights outside .The fun and frolic wasnt diminished by the inadequate and cramped space.
We have such lovely resorts in our country .It’s so sad we cant make much better use of them .
Amsterdam was a place I visited many many years ago and I could hardly remember much of it beyond the Red light district with the inviting houses with large glass windows and discrete curtains and the bicycles with huge chains to secure them .This time our packed schedule didnt allow us to get to the red light district .I did read though that there is a move to close this down and there was a debate raging on the appropriateness or otherwise of closing down the famed red light district. It has been such an intersting landmark of this city that I really think they shouldnt close it down !!!
The cyclist were as many as before  and all of them continue to have these large padlocks to secure them … even the rather old bikes. Strange I thought for a country were you wouldnt need to be so careful of an asset of this nature .As we were crossing the street to get to our coaches , a couple of cyclists wizzed past us , a German lady Iw as walking along with said the people here are crazy !!!???Didnt get to understand what she meant by this remark as we were soon at our coaches and had seperated by then .Crazy ?? Wonder what she meant !!
Last time around we also visited a wonderful museum with a truely great sound and light show .Again the packed nature of the conference didnt allow us to get to see either this or other interesting places .We did however go on an afternoon cruise in a sailing boat which was a wonderful experience. The people I met at the Conference were friendly and I did feel good about this visit although I really cant say I saw much of Amsterdam .
